oxhill then burdon moor.

Cloudy, 43f. Rain held out till 12.

Thought id have a walk around oxhill down the consett and sunderland railway path nz 1852, mainly because I was told that there used to be stonechat in the gorse a few years back but he didnt know if they had survived the past few winters.
I didnt see any, lol. But it does look like a good area for them.
On the other hand I did see a small flock of house sparrow x10+, lots of robin, pheasants x5, blackbird, chaffinch, goldfinch, bullfinch x5, blue tit, herring gull, dunnock, wood pigeon, magpie, feral pigeon.

Usual suspects on the feeders today, but no woodpecker, very strange....maybe a sparrowhawk victim!
However there was a flock of 30-40 redwing around the football pitch today, seems to be a favoured spot for them, ive seen them daily for the last 2 weeks in the area...
Got a few areas i want to check out in the next few weeks thanks to a few os maps.

Circular walk

Just heard an unusual bird call at 00:15 marley hill, kinda like a whit, like the beginning of a whistle, it kept repeating. Interesting.

41f, mist cleared about 10am

Anyway decided to do a little circular walk from marley hill down bowes public footpath to tanfield then burdon moor then north to sunniside.

Set off at 8:30 in heavy mist, on the way to burdon moor seen wren, robin, magpie, wood pigeon, great tit, blue tit, blackbird, chaffinch, jackdaws, crows, and black headed gulls. On the field next to tanfield station i had great views of 10 Red legged partridge, got to about 20 metres and they didnt even spook, thanks to the mist.
i Entered burdon moor a little dissapointed as there were about 3 cars in the car park,(dog walkers), but hey ho i carried on. Seen a grey Heron to the left of the path to the moor, a dunnock in the hedge, coal tits too. decided not to use the circular path but decided to check around the moor, seen a moorhen, about 10 mallards, hare, pheasants 8 golden plover, and heard skylark. at this point the mist was still thick, so i sat it out till it cleared, when it had i walked back towards the hedley hall footpath where there were about 100 noisy redwing which were spooked by the horse in the field. about 4 pheasants and a kestrel hovering, jays were calling in the woods also.
I then decided to to again walk along burdon moor via the tyne wear track to sunniside, this time on the way instead of 8 golden plovers there were a little under 200.which was nice! and a red kite with a pink left wing tag and a yellow right wing tag. carrying on i spooked a Common snipe in the field just before  pennyfine road. seen starling, lots of rook, jackdaw, crows, wood pigeon, herring gulls, black headed gulls and about 50 redwing in the horse fields going down to sunnisde. 2 bullfinch in someones driveway also.
overall a nice walk if a little chilly.
